The lesson tsunami left.
That tsunami of 2011.3.11 taught us some lessons. About the students or purples of schools almost all of them were safe but at one school ohkawa elementary school, almost 70 purples were killed at tsunami. Why this was happen? At that school, teachers gathered the purples and counted them and waited for those who were late and began to move to higher places and tsunami reached. But in other schools children were taught to run away freely, to think only their lives.
In Iwate where big tsunami had attacked often, a proverb is kept. “When tsunami comes run away ten-den-ko! “ Ten-den-ko means “separately, selfishly, don’t care for others, think for only yourself”. When tsunami comes there is no time so everyone has no time to care for others, if you help anyone you and he or she will be killed. So in tsunami people are forgiven if they don’t help others including parents and children.

langue de chat
There are too many English words in Japanese conversation. Especially new things we don't have Japanese to express. But these days, French words are invading Japanese conversation. We have already " langue de chat " of cookies. But nobody knows it means the tongue of a cat. And we hear celeb, fromage.

Japan got World Cup!
Japan defeated USA in women's World Cup in Germany.
My wife and I got up at 4:30 am and watched the game. The shoots of US were fast and strong but goal post helped us. And german audience suported Japan. Japan won to Germany at quater final so they wanted to think they lost to the strong team. And Japan and Germany fought against America at the WW2.
Japanese women team was once very weak and couln't go up to the Olympic. But chairman Kawabuchi began to manage and he let players play in the foreign club teams. Then the team became stronger.
Today's top news is about the victory and TV shows highlights of the final game again and again. I think US wasn't ready for PK but Japan's order was good and goal keeper did a great job.

German and Japanese
A Japanese was drinking Beer at a German bistort when a German asked him where he came from. After he knew the foreigner was Japanese he said, “ Fur nachstes mal ohne Italien! “. That means “ Next time without Italy! “. This story is well believed. This story has some points.
1 Japanese feels guilty for beginning the war but German is going to revenge and doesn’t feel guilty for the war.
2 Japan lost over 4 million lives at the war and Japanese doesn’t want to do the war again. But German is ready for the war. Really they lost WW1 but they did WW2 again.

what is your favorite kanji?
TV reporter asks foreigners who are in Japan, " What is your favorite Japanese word or letter? "

1 座 (to sit) because it is like a picture of smilimg face. It is like a face letter like as >^_^< (>_<) (^.^)

2 雨 (rain) or letters using 雨kanmuri. 雪snow 雲cloud 雷lightning 霜frost 霧fog

3 nozomi This is not a girl's name but a name of shinkansen, bullet train. Some foreigners love shinkansen because it's fast and silent smooth. This nozomi means hope.

4 用事( youji) it means something I have to do. If you want to refuse something all you must say is " I have youji this afternoon or tonight. " Youji is very convenient word.

Ame nimo makezu
On April 11 at Washington National Cathedral they held a player for Japan.
And in the event that poem of Kenji was read. Kenji is from Iwate next to Miyagi.

Be not Defeated by the Rain (Ame nimo makezu)

Be not defeated by the rain, Nor let the wind prove your better.
Succumb not to the snows of winter. Nor be bested by the heat of summer.

Be strong in body. Unfettered by desire. Not enticed to anger. Cultivate a quiet joy.
Count yourself last in everything. Put others before you.
Watch well and listen closely. Hold the learned lessons dear.

A thatch-roof house, in a meadow, nestled in a pine grove's shade.
A handful of rice, some miso, and a few vegetables to suffice for the day.

If, to the East, a child lies sick: Go forth and nurse him to health.
If, to the West, an old lady stands exhausted: Go forth, and relieve her of burden.
If, to the South, a man lies dying: Go forth with words of courage to dispel his fear.
If, to the North, an argument or fight ensues:
Go forth and beg them stop such a waste of effort and of spirit.

In times of drought, shed tears of sympathy.
In summers cold, walk in concern and empathy.

Stand aloof of the unknowing masses:
Better dismissed as useless than flattered as a "Great Man".
This is my goal, the person I strive to become.

This poem was written in his small notebook and it was found after his death.
So this is his goal or aim or ideal to be. He believed in Buddhism eagerly.
He is a really good man.
He wrote a lot of novels for children and poems. He wasn’t a pro writer but a teacher of science.

Cotton handkerchief ( song of Japan )
     Cotton handkerchief ( momen no hankachi-fu )

Matsumoto Takashi
Sung by Ohta Hiromi

Sweetheart, I’m going on the train east now
I’ll look for a present for you in the crowded city.
No, thank you. I want nothing but I hope you come back
without being infected with evils of the town.

Sweetheart, please don’t cry as we can’t meet for half year.
I send you a ring that’s in style here, I’m sure it suits you.
No, thank you. As no diamonds no pearls are better than your kiss.

Sweetheart, are you without make up even no lipstick?
Look at my picture in a good suit like another person.
No, thank you, I loved you lying on the grass but
take care you in the cold street with large buildings.

Sweetheart, you won’t forgive me because
I’ve forgot you and changed, but this life is so joyful that
I can’t return home.
Honey, I ask you the last and only wish of mine
Give me a cotton handkerchief to wipe the tears.

Ambush ( machibuse ) a popular song of Japan
Ambush ( machibuse )

Matsutouya Yumi
Sung by Ishikawa Hitomi

In the evening, at a teashop of the street
I noticed a couple smiling happily that I knew well.
The reason why she turned pretty suddenly
is that she had met you like this all the time.

I’ve loved you always in my heart such a long time.
I will sure make you turn around to me some day.

I joined you as if I wasn’t interested in very much.
But I gazed on you hotly over the table.

The rumor she was dumped I heard but
I won’t make approach to you of my own will.
I show you a love letter from another boy.
I make ambush on your way home pretending by chance.

I’ve loved you always in my heart such a long time.
I will sure make you turn around to me some day.

Tujii Nobuyuki
I think this young man is the most talented Japanese now. He won at Van Kliburn piano concours. He is the best pianist and also good composer. He sometimes plays his own tune and it's very good.

his own tunes.

Prime minister Kan
I don't think prime minister Kan is a great leader that can handle
this cricis. He visited Tokyo Electric Power co. and spoke, " It's out
of question running away. Only you are able to manage the plant.
So make up your mind. If you run away your company will go
bankrupt !"

I don't think bankrupt or not is no big problem now. Japan may go
bankrupt.

I wanted Kan speak like this, " Our country is now under very serious
situation since WW2. The fate of Japan is in your hands. If you die here
I will die and meet again in heaven. If you win this difficult battle, we will
celebrate together! I am always with you and fight with you. " ( Kate
Blanschet's speech in Elizabeth G.A.)

Or like this,
" This is one of the most difficult situation of the history. And twenty or
thirty years later if you say only " I was in Fukushima atomic plant and
stopped the crisis. " all of people around you will say " Oh! this man is
a hero, a saviour" ( The style of Napoleon)

Life in Japan
The other day I went to a supermarket to buy foods and goods.
It was almost panic. There aren't rice, cup noodles, natto, bread,
electric cells, candles, toilet papers, flashlights of course. And it is
dark in the store and everywhere in east Japan. And now gasoline
is as precious as jewels. The very long line at gasoline stand
causes heavy traffic jam.
And when planned blackout begins traffic signals are down and
no policemen at ordinary signals. At a very large signal policeman
controls cars.
In the station, escalator doesn't move and in a train heating system
s stopped. So it's as cold in as out.

I experienced blackout in my house. But there are some areas
where breakdown never happen. They say those are areas where
large hospitals are or big stations, city hall, other important buildings
are. The building in which our office is never got blackout. It's very well.

In the net they say the moon is very close to the earth so another
large quake may happen or Mt Fuji erupt. It's reminds me of
" 2012 " the film. Any way this week was a very very long week
for Japanese. Tomorrow I can rest in home. I'm tired.
We can't tell what will happen in next week. And Chinese who stay
in Japan go back to China really.

inconvenience
People hate scheduled blackout because trains don't
move regularly, traffic signal is out, even hospitals are
closed during blackout. And everywhere is dark as we
must save electricity. Long line at gas stations.
Schools are shut or end early. Factories are closed
because they can't use much electricity. We are in
inconvenient world.
And radioactivity is leaking out from broken atomic
plants.
We think is Japan OK? When all these troubles end?

# by 88mmhirox | 2011-03-17 08:05 | Comments(0)
scheduled blackouts
The Day began but the electric blackout was not done.
But the half of railways were stopped so a lot of people couldn't
go to offices. I couldn't use trains so I tried to drive to the office.
Ordinary it takes one hour but took three hours today.
No classes today either. I only telephoned to students. No work.

From tomorrow they will do planned blackout. When it is done even traffic
signal will be dead and policeman will manage the cars. Can you believe
this? Our lives are changed to difficult and tiresome.

And there are rumors that three of atomic plants will go "melt down"
so we should run away to the west area like as Kyushu. And French
diplomacy tells French people who stay in Tokyo to leave Japan.
